Adoption Policies

Guidelines for Adoption:
  1. Equine will only be adopted to adults of legal age to be used as pleasure equine. No animals adopted from Hearts of Horse Haven equine will be allowed to be used for rodeo rough stock events, racing, or padded events.

  2. Adequate housing must provided such as a barn, run-in, lean-to, etc. and be large enough for each equine on the property to lay down comfortably in the dry as protection from the elements. Inspection of surroundings will be noted to insure there is no danger from injury due to foreign objects or inadequate fencing.

  3. We adhere to a strict no breeding policy. No exceptions. If a mare comes into our program who is already pregnant the off spring become the legal property of Hearts of Horse Haven and first option to adopt will be given to the care giver if they meet all requirements.

  4. All equine are required to receive a yearly veterinarian check-up. Coggins test and yearly vaccinations are required by a veterinarian’s recommendation. Adequate farrier care must be provided on regular basis.

  5. If an adopter is unable or unwilling to provide adequate care for the adopted equine Hearts of Horse Haven holds the first right of refusal before adopter can re-home. Adopter cannot dispose of this animal at an auction, to a known horse trader or to slaughter.

  6. Hearts of Horse Haven may charge an adoption fee to help cover cost incurred while in their custody. Hearts of Horse Haven has the right to waive or lower this fee at their discretion. There will be no fee to foster an equine until placement.

  7. Hearts of Horse Haven, Inc. reserves the right to refuse adoption to any person unable or unwilling to comply with these guidelines.
How the Process Works:
1. If you find an animal you are interested in adopting your first step is to fill an adoption application by clicking on the button below. 

2. After receiving your adoption application you will be contacted by phone to set up a time you can meet with the prospective adoptable animal.
